Celebrating the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics National Nutrition Month®: Meal Delivery

by karen on March 29, 2018

The third of a three blog series
National Nutrition Month® is a nutrition education and information campaign celebrated annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the United States’ largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. The National Nutrition Month campaign focuses on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. In addition, National Nutrition Month® promotes registered dietitians as the most valuable and credible source of timely, scientifically-based food and nutrition information.

2018 National Nutrition Month Theme
“Go Further with Food” is the theme for 2018, a reminder to eat healthfully for ongoing energy and plan meals and snacks in advance. Whether it’s starting the day off right with a healthy breakfast or having energy to put in a power workout at the end of your workday, the foods you choose can make a difference. Preparing foods at home can have a positive impact, and a little know-how can get you there.
“Go Further with Food” by Enlisting Meal Delivery Services
In our first blog in this series, we talked about the myriad benefits of meal prepping for the week. It’s a daunting task for most, thus meal delivery services can help keep you on track with healthy eating. Some of my clients take advantage of these services with delivery several times weekly. They benefit from the convenience of having the meals selected and the groceries delivered. We work on personal meal planning for the rest of the week to ensure their health goals are met.

Trying to decide which meal delivery service is the best fit for you? The following is a brief overview of some popular meal delivery services available. Focus on finding one that best meets your dietary needs, cooking skills, and budget!

Fully Prepared Meals
Gym Rat Foods
This local business offers fully-prepared meals geared towards “clean eating” that are customized to your caloric needs. Their meals are prepared twice a week, and can either be picked up onsite at one of their locations in the Reno-Sparks area, or delivered to your door for a fee.

Grocery delivery and curbside pick-up are also good options if you have limited time to run to the grocery store. These services not only save time, but also can save you from making unhealthy, impulse purchases that often occur when shopping at the grocery store.

Grocery Delivery
Instacart
