If you find yourself struggling with seasonal allergies throughout the year, you’re not alone. For many of us, summer brings with it a bundle of pollen that can cause discomfort and annoyance. Thankfully, there are some natural options that may help alleviate your symptoms.

Native Honey

There is some support for using honey to help acclimate your body to native pollen. Adding local honey to food and beverages may help alleviate symptoms by introducing small amounts of pollen into your body to help build tolerance.

While there is not significant clinical evidence to support honey as an allergy solution, there is no harm in trying the natural remedy if allergy shots are out of your comfort zone—or price range.

Farmer’s markets, the Great Basin Community Co-op, and Whole Foods Market are all retailers where you’ll be likely to find raw, local honey. A few of our favorites are Hidden Valley HoneyAl Bees, and LS Bees.

TriEase from doTERRA

Another natural allergy combatant can be found in essential oils. Many of my friends and clients can swear by TriEase, a blend of lavender, lemon, and peppermint that helps soothe the inflammatory response seasonal allergies can trigger. If you’re interested in learning more about essential oils, please let me know in our next meeting!

We all want to get outside this time of year, so if you need immediate relief, you can always try standard over-the-counter antihistamines such as Benadryl and Zyrtec.

Food Allergies

While seasonal allergies can be a nuisance, food allergies can cause serious discomfort and even anaphylaxis, and therefore should be monitored closely. If you’re among my clients that have received a food allergy test that shows sensitivities, but who have also received no follow-up instruction, I’m here to help. Navigating life with food sensitivities and allergies can get confusing, but solutions are available to you.
